The First Post

When starting a blog its always tough to decide what to write because there are two parties you need to serve; the interest of the company, in this case Tributes.com and the interest of the people who read the blog, that would be you.  Some companies would work on building content, others would work on building for certain keywords, but most start something and then ignore it.  The initial excitement of just getting out there fades and it eventually becomes a chore to have things to pos.  People stop visiting because there is nothing new going on, and eventually you hear people say “just throw that on the blog, at least its something…” or “we gotta do more with the blog, need to make it sticky so people come back a lot”.

Well this blog is going to undoubtedly be about Tributes.com (the company), the funeral home industry, newspapers, and the obituary sections of the newspapers.  However it will all be from my perspective.  Having only been with Tributes.com for a year my scope into the funeral home industry is limited, but I’ve learned that everyone else is in the same boat as me, unless they are a funeral director.  So where am I coming from?  Well I’m an internet entrepreneur.  I would say a successful one, but that all depends on where YOU are coming from.  I started in the web marketing space in 2003 with a student loan company and have created numerous sites that target the college and after-college market as well as job search and recruitment and other financial services.  I joined Tributes.com to see how going after the baby boomer market would be different from everything I’ve done before, a new challenge.

Since this is the first post I’ll tell you that I will be updating 4 to 5 times each week and sharing stories of how this company is progressing.  It will also be an open forum for sharing our thoughts about the company, the site, and the ever changing landscape of the market that we are trying to change.  Look for more to come…..
